Shop window screens

A shop window is the hardest place for a screen: sun outside, glass in between, and heat with nowhere to go. An ordinary TV lasts one season there, and for that whole time it can't be seen.

Why it's different

What kills an ordinary screen in a shop window.

Six causes, each of which is solved at the selection stage, not afterwards.

BrightnessA home TV is made for a living room. In a shop window at midday, its picture disappears completely.
HeatHeat builds up between the glass and the screen. Without ventilation the electronics shut down, usually in summer.
ReflectionThe glass reflects the street. It's solved with a matte finish and the mounting angle.
Operating hoursA shop window runs twelve to sixteen hours a day. A home panel isn't built for that.
Image burn-inA static logo left for months leaves a mark. The content has to move.
AccessIf changing a cable means taking the window display apart, every bit of maintenance becomes an event.

What's included

How we do it.

It starts with looking at the window itself — on site, or from photos with measurements.

SurveyWhich way the window faces, when the sun hits it and how much space there is behind the glass.
Choosing the screenBrightness to suit the orientation. A north-facing window and a south-facing one need different hardware.
CoolingVentilation or active cooling, depending on how enclosed the recess is.
MountingStand, angle and hidden cables. A visible cable spoils the whole window.
PowerIncluding a timer, so it doesn't glow all night unless that's the point.
ContentMoving visuals, designed for someone walking past and looking for two or three seconds.
ManagementChanged remotely, on a schedule, just as with digital signage.
ChecksMonitoring that the screen is working, and an alert if it stops.

Can I just put an ordinary TV there?

You can, but it won't be visible at midday and will probably fail from overheating in its first summer. We've seen it many times.

If the window faces north and is in the shade, the difference is smaller, and sometimes it's worth a try.

How much does it cost?

Most of the price is the screen itself, and it depends on size and brightness. It's quoted after looking at the window.

How much power does it use?

More than a home TV, because it's brighter. We fit a timer so it doesn't run at hours when nobody's walking past.

Can I change the content myself?

Yes, through the same web panel as with digital signage. We train someone on your team.

Will it be visible in the evening?

Yes, and the evening is usually when it has the strongest effect. The brightness drops automatically so it doesn't dazzle.
