Restaurant websites

Almost everyone who opens a restaurant's website wants one of three things: the menu, the opening hours or directions. If any of them takes more than two clicks, they go back to the map and pick somewhere else.

Note

What drives guests away from the site.

Six mistakes we see on almost every restaurant website.

The menu is a PDFIt opens slowly, you read it by pinching, and on a phone it looks like a sheet of paper seen from across the room. The most common and most expensive mistake.
The menu is a photoIt can't be searched, it's unreadable when zoomed, and Google understands nothing from it.
No pricesSomeone who can't see prices assumes the worst and goes elsewhere.
The phone number can't be tappedShown as an image or as text without a link. On a phone, it should call with one tap.
The opening hours are hiddenEither in the footer or missing altogether. After the menu, it's the most searched-for fact.
Music on loadIt still happens. It gets closed immediately — usually along with the whole site.

What we do

What goes into the site.

In order of importance — the first three decide almost everything.

A menu as textCategories, dishes, ingredients, prices. Readable on a phone, updated by you in minutes, and understood by Google.
The phone number everywhereA visible tap-to-call button on every screen.
Opening hours and locationIn plain sight, with a map and a link to navigation.
ReservationsA form, or a link to the system you use. It arrives by email and, optionally, as a message.
Food photosFrom your own material. If you don't have any, we'll tell you that's the first thing to get done.
Lunch menuSeparate and easy to update, because it changes daily.
Events and enquiriesFor company dinners and celebrations — a separate form with the questions you'd ask anyway.
Google profileSetting up your Google Maps profile. For a restaurant, it often brings more people than the site itself.

How much does a restaurant website cost?

It starts at €600 for a site with a menu, reservations, opening hours and location. The final price depends on the size of the menu and whether we enter the dishes.

If you have the menu in a file, entering it is quick work; if it's only on paper, that's a job in itself.

Can I change the menu myself?

Yes, that's the core requirement for a restaurant. The menu is managed through a simple panel, and a change takes minutes.

Why not just put the menu up as a PDF?

Because on a phone it's hard to read, slow to load, and Google doesn't understand what you offer. And almost everyone opens your site on a phone.

A text menu gets found in searches for specific dishes — that's traffic a PDF doesn't bring.

Do you photograph the food as well?

We don't do photography. We work with your material and edit it. If you don't have decent photos, that's the first thing to sort out — for a restaurant, the photo sells.

Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page?

The page is fine, but it doesn't show up on Google for “restaurant + neighbourhood” the way a site with a well-made menu does.

Besides, your Google Maps profile also wants a website to point to.
