Live streaming

People watching remotely don't have the room to help them. For them, the event is whatever makes it into the frame and the sound — so sound matters more than picture, and a caption saying who's speaking matters more than both.

What's included

From the room to the viewer's screen.

We can take on all of it, or just the part you're missing.

CamerasOne or several, depending on whether there's a panel, an audience and a presentation.
SoundStraight from the venue's mixing desk, not from the camera microphone. That's the difference between watchable and unwatchable.
DirectingSwitching between speaker, presentation and wide shot while the event is running.
CaptionsWho's speaking, the topic, the logos. The viewer at the other end has no programme in their hands.
ConnectionTested in advance, with a backup channel over mobile internet.
BroadcastTo your own page, to a platform, or to several places at once.
RecordingIn full quality, handed over after the event. It usually gets more use than the live stream itself.
Viewer questionsCollected and passed to the host, if the event calls for it.

From experience

What ruins a broadcast.

Almost never the camera. Almost always something on this list.

Sound from the roomThe camera microphone picks up echo and coughing. The sound has to come from the desk.
The venue's internetThe general network is shared with two hundred phones. You need a dedicated line or a mobile backup.
LightingThe room is dark so the presentation can be seen, and the speaker vanishes in the shot.
Slides filmed on cameraSlides shot by a camera are unreadable. They're fed straight from the computer.
Nobody watching the streamYou need someone checking how it looks at the other end, not how it looks in the room.
A forgotten startThe stream starts five minutes after the event has begun. It should go live early, with a holding screen.

Questions

About streaming.

How much does a live stream cost?

It depends on the number of cameras, the length, and whether there's directing and captions. It's quoted after a conversation about the event itself.

Where is it broadcast?

Wherever you say — on your own page, on a social network, on a webinar platform, or in several places at once.

If the event is private, access is limited to invited guests.

Will I get a recording?

Yes, in full quality, and it's yours. The recording usually gets watched more than the live broadcast itself.

What happens if the internet goes down?

There's a backup channel over the mobile network, and the recording runs locally whatever the connection does. That way the event isn't lost.

Can I get just the equipment, without the crew?

We don't recommend it. A stream with nobody watching it from the other end usually means twenty minutes of silence that no one noticed.

Next step

It starts with a conversation.

Thirty minutes, no fee and no sales pitch. If the job isn't for us, we'll tell you on that call — not a month later.
