Analytics and tracking

Most sites have an elaborate Analytics setup and still don't know how many enquiries come from where. The reason: it counts visits, not actions — and budget decisions are made on actions.

What we set up

From a counter to a decision tool.

The goal isn't a pretty report, but being able to answer one question: where should the next euro go?

GA4Configured properly, with internal traffic filtered out and clearly named events. Not just a snippet dropped in.
Search ConsoleConnected and verified. That's where the real data on the searches people find you by comes from.
Enquiry eventsA submitted form, a tapped phone number, a tapped email. Each as a separate event with a name that makes sense.
Phone callsA click on the phone number gets counted. For many businesses, especially local ones, it's the main way enquiries come in.
E-commerceFor a shop — orders with their value, so you see revenue per channel, not just a count.
SourcesCorrect tags on ad links, so paid traffic doesn't get mixed up with organic.
Cleaning out the noiseBots, internal visits, referrer spam. Otherwise the numbers lie in favour of nothing.
A one-screen reportChannels, enquiries and cost per enquiry. Not twenty charts nobody looks at.

Often

What's usually wrong.

We check these six things on every new site. At least one of them is almost always there.

No eventsAnalytics counts visits but not enquiries. From there on, every conclusion is a guess.
The wrong things are countedA visit to the “contact” page is set up as a conversion. That's not an enquiry, it's curiosity.
Internal traffic is includedYour own visits and your agency's inflate the numbers, especially on a small site.
Two codes at onceAn old and a new tracker run side by side, and every visit is counted twice.
No Search ConsoleOr it's connected to a different version of the domain — with www instead of without, or for http.
Nobody looksEverything is set up and nobody opens the report. That's why we build a single screen you can understand in a minute.

About analytics.

How much does the setup cost?

It's quoted by scope. For a business site with a few forms it's quick work; for a shop with e-commerce tracking and several ad channels, more.

It's done once and then only maintained when the site changes.

I already have Google Analytics. Isn't that enough?

Almost never. The installed code counts visits, not enquiries. If your report has no event for a submitted form or a tapped phone number, you don't know which channel is working.

The first thing we do is check what's actually being counted.

Can phone calls be tracked?

A tap on the phone number on a mobile — yes, and that covers most cases. Tracking the call itself needs a separate number and service, which is quoted separately.

Who owns the data?

You do. The accounts are in your name and we get access. If we part ways, you keep the whole history.

If the accounts are currently with a former agency, we help you get them back or migrate.

Is it compatible with cookie requirements?

We set it up so that tracking respects the choice the visitor makes in the cookie banner.

We're not lawyers and we don't give legal advice — we configure the technology to match what you've decided to declare.

Next step

Let's see what's being counted.

Give us read access to Analytics and we'll tell you what's actually being measured and what's missing. The review commits you to nothing.
