Anyone who promises you first place within a month either doesn't know how search works or is counting on you not knowing. The real answer is between three and twelve months — but it's more useful to know what you can see in the first month, too.
Timeline
Roughly, for a working site with normal competition. With a new domain, everything shifts later.
An audit, clearing technical obstacles, fixing titles and structure. No rankings yet, but a foundation.
Google recrawls and starts to understand the site. The first movement shows on long, narrow queries.
Traffic starts coming from questions, not just from the company name. This is usually when the first enquiries from search come in, too.
The main queries start moving up. In a narrow niche, there's a noticeable result by now.
In competitive niches, this is the period in which you reach the first page for the more searched-for phrases.
Rankings are maintained. Stopping the work doesn't erase the result straight away, but the competition gradually pushes you out.
What it depends on
Six factors that determine which scenario applies to you.
Check
If none of the following is happening after two months, ask your contractor some questions.

+359 882 95 89 89Nobody can give you a date, and anyone who does shouldn't be believed. Realistically: 3–6 months for a narrow niche, 6–12 for a competitive one.
The more useful goal isn't “first place” but more enquiries from search — and those come from second and third place too.
No. No contractor has any influence over Google's algorithm, and any such guarantee is either ignorance or deception.
What can be guaranteed is the scope of the work and the reporting on it — that's what we do.
Not straight away. What's been done stays and keeps working for months. But competitors keep working and gradually push you out.
Ads deliver results from day one, but stop the day you stop paying. That's why the two usually run together: ads for now, optimization for six months from now.
Sometimes, in the short term. In the long term, it risks a penalty that's harder to fix than the gain was to make. We don't work that way.
